Founder story
Why I built Hololife
2014 — The wake-up call
I didn't start as an athlete. I was 200 lbs, on medication for high blood pressure and cholesterol. When I started Taekwondo with my son, I realized I couldn't keep up — I needed to change my whole self to be the dad I wanted to be.
The first win
My first 5K was the real starting line. That single race proved I could do something I never thought possible. Those small wins gave me the confidence to keep going — and eventually, my son and I earned our 2nd degree black belts together.
Small wins compound
Today I've run 16,922 miles and have finished 15 marathons, 25+ half marathons, and 4 of the 6 Abbott World Marathon Majors. Step by step, working with my clinician, I got off the medications and built a foundation that lasts.
The setback
But life is messy and there are always setbacks. My last race was 20 minutes slower than any marathon I've run. Working with my doctor and PT, I discovered my glutes and hips weren't firing properly — years of overworking my hamstrings had caught up.
The reset
The fix? Pilates. A major reset that's changed my entire running dynamic. I'm getting faster and stronger — but I'm also learning to run again at longer distances. Progress isn't always up and to the right — and that's okay.
That's why Hololife exists.
